Paragon Creative Ltd is one of the largest and best equipped creative workshops in the UK, offering an impressive range of integrated services. Since 1986, we have earned a high reputation as the leading independent scenic, theming, model making, interactives and specialist fit-out facility.
With a team of over 60, we provide a wide range of artistic and construction skills: model making, sculpting, engineering, prop making, scenic painting, mould making, fibre glass and urethane fabrication, metalwork, display joinery, CNC routing, laser cutting and set dressing. Our multi-disciplined and creative teams are some of the best and innovative craftspeople and artists in the industry, with backgrounds in design, film, television, theatre, architecture and fine arts, together with traditional skills such as cabinetmaking, mould making, metalworking and engineering. These skills are directed by a strong administrative and project management team with many years of experience in estimating, costing, scheduling, procurement, project management and site management.
Our 40,000sq ft central UK location on the outskirts of York provides fast and easy access to our facility, serving clients world-wide.
The scope of our work ranges from entire themed environments to detailed replicas, from amazing realistic costumed figures to specialist display joinery, from technically advanced interactives to fully detailed architectural models from scenic cloths to oversized props, from artificial rock faces to dioramas and much, much more!
With over 1000 projects completed world-wide, our client base is far reaching, crossing many market sectors and industries. We work with architects and design companies, the advertising industry and the manufacturing industry, film and TV, museums and visitor centres, exhibitions and the retail sector. Our extensive experience enables us to offer the designer, the architect, the building contractor and ultimately the client a seamless transition from concept through to installation.
Our involvement in “design development” is expanding and no longer is the line between design and fabrication clearly defined. Schedules are becoming more and more compressed, and it is therefore vital that designers and fabricators work together to resolve methods, materials and structural choices at the earliest stage in the design development of a project.
With the recent explosion in the demand for quality creative solutions, our close interface with the conventional construction trades is critical. Paragon Creative plays a pivotal part in that process of bringing together a new and dynamic group of trades.
We have also adapted special production techniques to meet the need of a diverse range of design challenges. We work with a wide range of materials - from MDF to oak, from polyester to polystyrene, from GRP to urethane, from canvas to clay and from latex to steel and many materials and mixes which we have developed ourselves and which are unique to us.
Clients and designers select us for our attention to quality and detail, our reputation for never missing a deadline, our competitive pricing and our understanding of client expectations. Our directors are personally involved in every project and assignment, and we bring those projects in on time and within budget.
In 2008 we were commissioned by Merlin Entertainments Group to undertake the theming and special effects contract for Saw – The Ride, at Thorpe Park, Surrey. Working under the creative direction of Candy Holland of Merlin Entertainments Resort Theme Parks, our work scope included extensive interior and exterior theming of the ride buildings, including props, figurative work and special effects. The surrounding landscape and queue lines of the coaster are themed to resemble an industrial backlot with a large imposing station building, atmospherically themed to resemble an old ‘abandoned’ factory.
Public comments regarding the quality of the theming and effects include such words as ‘awesome’, incredible’ and ‘simply the best themed ride in the UK’.
Candy commented ‘”SAW – The Ride was an extremely exciting project, being the first horror themed rollercoaster ever created. It was important for us (Merlin Studios) to work with a theming company that could accurately deliver our designs and creative intent”.
We worked in close collaboration with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures to ensure total accuracy of the key elements of the SAW films… which when combined with the latest rollercoaster technology has created a phenomenal ride experience.
Following the success of SAW The Ride, in 2009 Paragon Creative was appointed as main contractor for the theming and special effects of SAW Alive, a year round live action maze based within Thorpe Park.
Like the films, SAW Alive has been designed and built to test the nerve of all who dare to enter it and visitors will be at the mercy of the series’ master manipulator, Jigsaw. Thorpe parks year round live action Horror maze is the first of its kind and features six iconic scenes from the six films released to date.
When the senior team from Lionsgate flew in from Santa Monica to sign off the attraction, they gave our team a standing ovation for their creativity and the accuracy of their recreation and portrayal of the iconic Lionsgate scenes.
Over 110,000 visitors experienced the Horror Maze in the first month of operation.
Paragon Creative was also responsible for the fit out, theming, props and dressing and interactives for the amazing Ripley’s Believe it or Not! in London’s West End in Piccadilly Circus.
The attraction designed and project managed by Jack Rouse Associates of Cincinnati, Ohio, brings together a host of peculiar and wonderful exhibits never before seen in the UK.
Ripley’s Believe it or Not! was a fantastic opportunity for Paragon Creative to bring all the various teams and skills together to work on one project, all our departments were involved from joinery through to engineering and we believe the spectacular results of our teams work speaks for itself.
