Production and Distribution
nWave Studios SA is a fully integrated digital studio specializing exclusively in producing, developing and financing 3D (stereoscopic) content for the institutional and attraction themed entertainment market as well as the large format and feature film industry. Through the exhibition of the largest and most versatile library in the industry of 3D films, we have helped generate millions of dollars for amusement parks, entertainment centers, cinemas, museums, science centers, zoos, aquariums, shopping centers and resorts.
nWave History
In the early 90’s, after graduating from USC Film School, Ben Stassen and D&D Entertainment Group, an independent television production company in Belgium, founded nWave Pictures. In less than four years, with the production of 17 ride simulation films, nWave Pictures www.nwave.com established itself as the primary independent producer and distributor of ride films for the motion simulation market.
In 1997, nWave Pictures released its first giant screen production, the 2D film “Thrill Ride: The Science of Fun”. Distributed through Sony Pictures Classics. “Thrill Ride” was ranked as one of the top 50 films at the box office for 70-consecutive weeks (as ranked by Daily Variety and the numbers.com at http://www.the numbers.com/market/Distributors ). The film accumulated a box-office gross of more than $ 31 million worldwide.
“Thrill Ride” led nWave Pictures to branch out again, this time to the 3D sector of the giant screen market. With the combination of computer-generated imagery and live action, “3D Mania! Encounter in the Third Dimension” (1999) took audiences through the history of 3D cinema and led Ben to the beginning of 3D for the Giant Screen as well as the rides and attraction market.
To complement its production growth and further establish itself in the expanding giant screen market, nWave launched its own film distribution company: nWave Distribution. The development of the distribution activity was supported by the successful release of a number of giant screen films as “Alien Adventure” (1999), “Haunted Castle” (2001), “SOS Planet” (2002), “MisAdventures in 3D” (2003), “Wild Safari 3D” (2005), as well as giant screen films produced by other production entities, including H5B5’s “Ocean Men” and BBC/Discovery Pictures’ “The Human Body”. nWave films have grossed millions of dollars and continue to gross money throughout the 3D attraction & ride special venue market.
In 2008, “Fly Me to the Moon”, the first stereoscopic independent 3D feature length animated film and has made $50 million dollars and counting. (www.flymetothemoonthemovie.com) Our second 3D animated feature “Sammy’s Adventure” was just signed for distribution through Studio Canal. nWave’s partnership with Studio Canal for more 3D feature films in the future will allow nWave to continue to create top quality 3D/4D attraction and ride films for the special venue market. Our mission is to continue to thrill and excite audiences in 3D worldwide!
