Greetings and welcome to the 2012 International Aquarium Congress (IAC). We at the Two Oceans Aquarium, in partnership with the Cape Town International Convention Centre, are proud to be hosting the IAC from 9 to 14 September 2012.
The IAC is probably the most important and prestigious event for the public aquarium industry. The Congress, which is held every four years, gathers professionals from public aquariums around the world to share and learn about new developments in research, technology, management and other industry issues. A mini-exhibition is held concurrently, providing an opportunity for businesses involved in the public aquarium industry to showcase their products and services
You, the delegate, will have the opportunity to experience the best that South Africa has to offer in terms of its natural beauty and the wonders of its bountiful animal and plant life – not forgetting the world-class hotels and convention facilities.
Included in the environs of Cape Town alone are some of the best land-based whale watching sites in the world, a large population of great white sharks that is accessible to both divers and non-divers, and large colonies of Cape fur seals, African penguins and other seabirds. The region also boasts two World Heritage Sites: Robben Island and the Cape Floral Region, the smallest and, relative to its size, most diverse floral kingdom in the world. Beyond Cape Town, Southern Africa offers magnificent opportunities for nature-lovers, with some of the finest game parks in Africa. We’ll be posting updates on the progamme details – which include a spectacular welcoming cocktail party, drinks on Table Mountain, beach parties, a closing gala dinner and, of course, a host of informative and stimulating presentations and talks, all aimed at sharing experiences and collectively inspiring change.
