Legoland Windsor is an amusement park aimed predominantly at younger children and is one of the most visited amusement park attractions in the UK. This amusement park opened in 1996 on the site of what used to be Windsor Safari Park which went into receivership in 1992.
It became the second Lego-themed amusement park – the first one being opened in Billund in Lego’s homeland of Denmark back in 1968. In keeping with all of the other Legoland amusement parks throughout the world, the attractions consist of a combination of Lego models, Lego building workshops and Lego-themed rides.
With four Legoland Parks now making up the entire Legoland empire - the other two amusement parks being in Carlsbad near San Diego, California and another in Gunzberg in Germany, in 2005 they became a combined business, backed by Blackstone Venture Capital and Merlin Entertainments with the LEGO group itself retaining a 30 per cent share.
The amusement park is situated close to Windsor Castle and is less than 10 miles of London’s Heathrow Airport.
There are over 50 attractions at the Legoland Windsor amusement park all aimed at children from the ages of 3-12 including interactive rides where kids can take to the skies, sail the seas and drive along roads in complete safety.
In addition to all of the exciting rides at the amusement park, there are live shows, driving schools, building workshops and other attractions making Legoland Windsor a fun place for all of the family. It also has the added attraction of being an amusement park which is set in 150 acres of magnificent countryside.
The latest attraction to the Legoland Windsor amusement park takes you on an exciting adventure as you explore the Kingdom of the Pharaohs. There’s a brand new ride at the amusement park called ‘Laser Raiders’ where you shoot laser guns to overcome booby traps as you search an ancient tomb for hidden treasure and another new ride called ‘Scarab-bouncers’ which, it is claimed, could leave you feeling a little ‘jumpy’.
The 2009 season of Legoland Windsor amusement park opens for business on 21st March.
