Old Town is an amusement park and a lot more besides and is located in Kissimmee, Florida.
The venture was the idea of a man named Deac Huntley and it opened in 1986. The amusement park is more of an entertainment town than simply a conventional amusement park featuring rides. In fact, it’s more of a complete entertainment ‘experience’.
When the amusement park first opened, it just consisted of a Ferris wheel and a carousel alongside a small number of stores. Today, it has expanded into a unique little village. It covers 5 blocks featuring well over 40 stores with around half of them selling unique gifts, about a dozen clothing stores, 5 jewellery shops and around 10 other stores selling different types of services such as a hairdressers, day spa and tattoo shop.
The amusement park features the Human Slingshot where you are catapulted up into the air to over 365 feet. The Super Shot does this in reverse where you are slowly lifted up to 150 feet then suddenly plunged downwards to earth. There’s the Windstorm Roller Coaster, the Wave Slinger and the amusement park also has a family go-kart track. Younger visitors to the amusement park will enjoy riding on the Wacky Worm Kiddie Coaster, Frog Hopper and those old favourites, the Merry Go Round and Tea Cups.
If you want to take a break from the thrills and spills of the amusement park and take a breath for some food and drink, there are over 15 different food establishments which cater to every taste from Tex-Mex to even a good old British fish and chip shop.
Old Town amusement park takes on quite a unique atmosphere during the evening with street entertainment to thrill everyone. Dwight Icenhower is the ‘King of Rock & Roll” and performs every Wednesday evening at the amusement park from 7pm. Other performers provide the entertainment on other set nights of the week. This includes bike night, classic car cruise, custom car exhibits and Latin music on the main stage.
And the fun never stops at Old Town amusement park as a nightclub called Sun on the Beach, a pub called the Blue Max Tavern and the restaurant/bar/concert venue called Tropical Breeze are all open at the amusement park to keep guests entertained until 2am.
