Themed Entertainment : Factors for Success

Themed entertainment doesn’t guarantee the success of a project. A themed entertainment project is subject to all the same rules as a non-themed entertainment project in terms of what will result in a successful buildout and a successful operation.

Themed Entertainment : Not Popping the Bubble

“Not popping the bubble” is a crucial part of making a themed entertainment project work from the visitor experience viewpoint. What does this mean? The bubble represents the totality of the environment that the themed entertainment venue provides.

TheThemed Entertainment Association: What's In a Name?

For several years, the Themed Entertainment Association eschewed using the words "themed entertainment" in its title. Instead of the Themed Entertainment Association, it was simply known – or tried to be known – as TEA. There was debate within the Themed Entertainment Association – on the board and among the membership – as to whether the initials that had originally designated Themed Entertainment Association ought to be reassigned to new words, if new words could be found to work, or whether the former Themed Entertainment Association ought to be renamed altogether.

"Believe" at SeaWorld: An immersive 4D theater experience

"Believe" at SeaWorld is an immersive 4D theater experience. What makes it 4D theater? It has the multimedia factor of 4D theater, for starters. "Believe" combines live action (killer whales and their trainers), cinema (giant screen above the horseshoe-shaped pool), music (a dramatic score that plays back during each show) and water effects (those who sit in the "splash zone" forward seats experience the water effects most intensely). All are tightly integrated to tell an uplifting story and the resulting guest experience is immersive, educational, entertaining and transformative: 4D theater at its best.

    4D Theaters

4D Theater refers to a custom, multimedia visitor attraction for entertainment and/or education, usually in a theme park, waterpark, museum, heritage center or visitors center. A 4D theater will tell a story using some combination of media such as high-definition video enhanced by in-theater effects such as props, animatronics, lighting and sound effects, and special 4D theater seats with built-in water sprayers, leg ticklers and transducer speakers (Buttkickers™).

    Themed Entertainment

Themed entertainment is a term that came into usage in the 1990s with the formation of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) which is a nonprofit alliance of vendors who help to design, create and operate themed entertainment attractions (which can also be educational).
