Amusement Parks: Universal Studios Hollywood Celetrates "The 13 Days of Grinchmas" Beginning Dec 19

“Grinchmas” time is coming to Universal Studios Hollywood as “The Entertainment Capital of L.A.” prepares to ring in the festive season with a traditional white Christmas and a not-so-traditional green Grinch, tons of fresh snow, encounters with Cindy-Lou Who and Max the Dog and a “Whoville Whobilation” at the original movie sets where the classic “Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was filmed.

“The 13 Days of “Grinchmas” will be celebrated at Universal Studios Hollywood from December 19-31 and is included in the price of theme park admission.  More information, including holiday promotional offers, is available at www.UniversalStudiosHollywood.com.

A whimsical, curving Grinchmas tree will tower 50 feet above the center of a snow-covered Grinchmas winter wonderland and will be lit in a nightly ceremony that will feature a colorfully costumed “Whoville” choir caroling and spreading holiday cheer. The Grinch and his faithful dog Max will be on hand to meet fans and take memorable holiday photos.  Families will also be able to enjoy traditional winter fun, romping together in a playground of snow and building their own snowmen.

“Grinchmas” will also provide fans of the blockbuster movie a close-up view of the original “Whoville” film sets, featured in the classic “Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” aboard the world-famous behind-the-scenes Studio Tour.  As the tram rolls to a stop amid the fanciful “Whoville” buildings, guests will experience a one-of-a-kind performance by “Whoville’s” residents re-enacting favorite scenes from the film.

For visiting friends and family or out of town guests this holiday season, “The Universal Hollywood Getaway” program offers visitors significant savings of up to 42% on vacation packages at five area hotels, located within a five mile radius of Universal Studios Hollywood.

Partnering hotels include the Sheraton Universal and Hilton Universal City (both within walking distance), The Sportsmen's Lodge Hotel, The Beverly Garland Holiday Inn and the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa.

Packages include hotel stay and 7-day unlimited admission ticket to Universal Studios Hollywood, as well as free breakfast for two each day, free hotel parking and free round trip shuttle service from the hotels to Universal Studios Hollywood.  Transportation from the Renaissance Hotel is not provided, but the hotel is located just one subway stop away on the Red Line.  “The Universal Hollywood Getaway” vacation packages prices start at $84 per person, with a two-night minimum.  Travel must be booked by December 31, 2009 for travel through January 31, 2010. More information is available at www.universalstudioshollywood.com/grinchmas.

Universal Studios Hollywood is open 365 days of the year, including Thanksgiving and Christmas day.  Southern California residents can attend the “Grinchmas” event with the purchase of a 2010 “Buy A Day, Get a Year Free” pass and return to enjoy a full year of admission for the price of a single day’s ticket.

Universal Studios Hollywood, The Entertainment Capital of L.A.SM, is a unit of Universal Parks & Resorts, a division of Universal Studios, a part of NBC Universal.  NBC Universal is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience.  Formed in May of 2004 through the combining of NBC and Vivendi Universal Entertainment, NBC Universal owns and operates a valuable portfolio of news and entertainment networks, a premier motion picture company, significant television production operations, a leading television stations group, and world-renowned theme parks.  NBC Universal is 80% owned by General Electric, with 20% controlled by Vivendi.
