Amusment Parks: All You Fear is Here at Kings Dominion

Something scary is creeping into Doswell. It’s big. It’s sinister. It’s not for the faint of heart. It’s bigger and better than ever. Halloween Haunt is returning to Kings Dominion this fall starting Saturday, September 26, 2009.

Beginning Saturday, September 26, as dusk settles over cheery grounds of Kings Dominion, the atmos-fear will change completely as shrieks, screams and scares signal that Haunt is coming to life. Complete with two new mazes, for a frightful total of nine mazes, five scare zones and more monsters and creepers than ever before, Kings Dominion’s Haunt is the Mid-Atlantic’s PREMIER Halloween-themed event. Haunt will take place on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays through October 31, 2009.

Highlighting Haunt activities are the park’s nine haunted mazes – each guaranteed to cause chills and fears of being alone at night. With new monsters, new venues and new themes –Haunt will touch everyone’s darkest fears.

NEW for 2009, Medieval Macabre will transport guests back to medieval times into an eerie-plague stricken village, where the villagers feast off the lesion-skin of the undead. Guests will try to avoid the Black Death while roaming the twists and turns of our largest maze.

Grab your bug repellant and face your worst nightmares in the Toxic Plague.  All of the slimy and grimy creatures of the night are dying to slither into your hair, ripple across your hand and ooze over skin. Are you brave enough for the twisted tunnels of the putrid sewers as millipedes and rotten rodents crawl out of their dank holes to feast on your flesh?

Big Top Terror will take you on a 3D journey under the Big Top and see the world in a whole new light. These carnivorous clowns have taken over and created a twisted version of a ‘fun’ house. The clowns will be the only ones laughing as you attempt to escape the endless game they are playing with your lives.

Most people have heard about Roswell and its alien sightings – but not many people are aware of Doswell’s aliens from beyond. Earlier this season, strange Unidentified Flying Objects were spotted hovering over the park and the mystery of the visit will be revealed at the Alien Outpost. Creatures from outer space have landed and they did not come in peace.

Old Virginia is the locale for Slaughter House and Blackbeard’s Revenge, two terrifying and nightmare-inducing haunted mazes. Folks from near and far com-a-runnin’ for Uncle Bob’s world famous BBQ at Slaughter House (New for 2009) and the fierce pirate, Blackbeard once made his home in the woods of Virginia and legend has it his gold can still be found here. Are you brave enough to seek his treasure?

Once escaping the Slaughter House and Blackbeard’s Revenge, guests may wish to enjoy a quaint evening drive in the forest – but that won’t be found along the Blue Ridge Bloodbath haunted maze that turns the park’s normally tranquil antique car ride into a terrifying journey amidst zombies and half-human/half-monster creatures who are looking for a few more souls to live in the forest.

For anyone who thought that Dracula didn’t seem so bad – they may wish to visit Club Blood. A new clan of vampires has opened the coolest nightclub in town – but beware, when you enter this club you just may dance the night – and your life – away.

The Maze of Madness haunted maze will also bring plenty of shrieks and shivers by the poor souls who were abandoned in this asylum for the crazed and insane. Will you escape the Maze of Madness, or will you be checking into your own padded room?

The fear is not just contained in the park’s haunted mazes. During Haunt, brave guests must venture through terrifying scare zones and avoid the many scary monsters and creepers lurking behind each turn. Tiptoe through the NEW Feary Tales, slide around Central Stalkway, dash through VooDoo Swamp, escape the demented clowns that live in the CarnEvil and avoid the sadistic farmers in The Harvest.

The Haunt wouldn’t be complete without dancing and singing ghouls. Each eveningguests may howl out their favorite songs with the creatures of the night at Disturbia or take in the NEW musical revue Graveyard Shift and “The Mistress of the Dark” herself, Elvira will take you on a ride of your afterlife in Elvira’s Superstition, a virtual “Scream Park” located in the Action Theater. Also NEW is the FreakShow Deluxe at the Showplace Theatre. Watch as these entertainers swallow swords, lay on beds of nails and other freakishly-entertaining feats.

And don’t forget – guests can ride their favorite Kings Dominion attractions… in the darkest dead of night.

While the attractions of Haunt bring out the scares at night, families and children may still enjoy Halloween fun of Howl-O-Fest, the ultimate kids Halloween party, Saturdays and Sundays beginning October 3. During daylight hours from 12pm-5pm, age-appropriate Halloween Fun awaits little ghouls and goblins in KidZville and Nickelodeon Central. Pint-sized guests will enjoy a monstrous good time chatting with Patch, the Talking Pumpkin, sifting through the Great Goblin Foam Pit, wandering through The Amazing Maize Maze, and exploring the Goblin Cave. Throughout the day, kids can pose for photos and receive treats during the park’s Meet and Treat.

Haunt shows and attractions are free with general park admission or with a valid 2009 Season Pass. Some Haunt attractions are not appropriate for all ages. Halloween Haunt begins on Saturday, September 26 and continues Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays through October 31. Operating hours are 7:00 p.m. to midnight on Fridays (October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30), 10:30 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays (September 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31) and 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays (September 27, October 4, 11, 18 and 25). Haunt mazes and attractions begin to open at 6 p.m. and children’s areas and activities close Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m. KidZville and Nickelodoen Central are not open on Friday evenings and close at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
