AUDIO visual specialist, DJ Willrich Ltd (DJW), has just completed a military-themed installation at Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset.
The firm has installed several pieces of audio and visual hardware within the brand-new ‘Battlegroup Afghanistan’ exhibition, due to open to the public on April 9.
The exhibition tells the tale of soldiers fighting in Afghanistan through their own words and relays to the public the dangers they face in the field.
Researchers spent hours interviewing soldiers from various regiments who have seen action in Afghanistan and DJW was appointed to install the vast amount of audio and video content that visitors will hear and watch as they explore the Forward Operating Base.
Experts from DJW installed four 42-inch monitors within the museum’s new zone to provide visitors with video footage of life as a soldier in Afghanistan. The Hampshire-based AV firm also installed five 15-inch monitors on top of ammunition crates, which will play video footage of equipment used by soldiers.
The award-winning firm installed audio points into military-style handsets to ensure that the exhibition retained a realistic look and created 17 sound stores to play out sounds of the battlefield.
Mike Hope, Project Manager, said: “The museum’s curators have worked incredibly hard to source real materials used in the field and to make the exhibition look incredibly realistic. Therefore it was vital that we were able to install hardware in a way that was sensitive to its surroundings. We also placed a huge emphasis on ensuring everything was compatible for hearing aids, so that the attraction can be enjoyed by everyone.”
David Willey, the museum’s Curator, added: “In this exhibition we have put the serving soldiers centre stage and it is they that tell the story. We have used the interviews we conducted with them within the exhibition, and these audio visual points form an essential part of the experience.”
