Fans of the movie that are lucky enough to visit the attraction during the opening week will be welcomed by Sid & Scrat, stars of the blockbuster movie. The attraction is ideal for all ages and begins with a 14 minute, high-definition 3-D movie, which employs a variety of high-tech, audio-visual special effects, to fully immerse visitors to the attraction in the Ice Age action.
Manny, Diego and Ellie take guests on an adventure underground, and when Sid the Sloth finds three abandoned eggs and decides to raise them himself, so begins the excitement in the Lost World of Dinosaurs.
Visitors will be thrilled by the Ice Age experience, thanks to the 4-D technology that allows them to experience an invigorating range of special effects, ranging from snow, winds, scents, water squirting, leg ticklers, air bursts, seat buzzers and much more, all from within a 4-D experience seat. Shedd's Phelps Auditorium, which houses the only 4-D experience in Chicago, will be the venue.
“Shedd Aquarium is always exploring new ways to connect our guests to animals and our world,” said Ron Nuce, Vice President of Guest Experience and Sales.
“Ice Age is an entertaining way to engage the whole family and get people thinking about different animals and their unique environments. The show is an adventure that inspires visitors to explore our living world.”
The expansion coincides with the release of Ice Age: continental Drift which is due for release on July 13th.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have this attraction expand following such strong debuts in both Europe and the US. This expansion is part of our overall commitment to allow fans to experience Ice Age and its characters in innovative ways,” said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products.
The Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs 4-D experience costs $6, or just $3 for Shedd members and is played at 20 minutes past the hour.
