Red Star’s animated film The Curse of Skull Rock will be the new star attraction for the 2009 season at Drayton Manor Theme Park near Tamworth, Staffordshire. The 12 minute film will play in stereoscopic 3D in a specially constructed 150 seat “4D” theatre with an extra dimension of immersive special effects.
The Curse of Skull Rock is a swashbuckling pirate adventure that pits plucky cabin girl Jill Hopkins against the tyrannical Captain Scabb in pursuit of the legendary lost treasure of Skull Rock. Aimed at a family audience, it was recently honoured with the award for Best Children’s Animated Film at the prestigious Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film.
At Drayton Manor Park the 3D film will be enhanced with an extra dimension of 4D effects in the theatre – the audience will literally be splashed with water and blasted with wind at key moments, immersing them into the action on screen. Other 4D effects include smoke, seat drop , lighting, and even aromas. The 4D theatre will be supplied by West Midlands attractions specialist Simworx.
Drayton Manor Theme Park is located near Tamworth, Birmingham, UK; and is packed with a host of great rides and attractions set in 280 acres of lakes and parkland. As well as the Drayton Manor Zoo, in 2008 Drayton Manor opened Thomas Land, a play area themed around HIT Entertainment’s Thomas and Friends Books and TV Series.
The Curse of Skull Rock stars Cath Whitefield as Jill Hopkins and Brian Black as Captain Scabb and the film was written and directed by Red Star creative director Ben Smith. All the feature film quality 3D animation was produced entirely in Red Star’s studio located in Sheffield, UK.
Red Star are currently producing a new 4D film for a major UK visitor attraction; and are developing several other 4D film projects for worldwide distribution. The Curse of Skull Rock is available immediately for licensing to other theme parks and attractions worldwide. More information can be found online at redstar3D.com/skullrock
