Crealy Great Adventure Park is hosting parliamentary visits during British Tourism Week to promote tourism in the South West, whilst also campaigning for extra hours of sunlight by introducing Double Summer Time in the UK.
Between Thursday 18th March and Saturday 20th March, the family owners of Devon’s Crealy and Cornwall’s Crealy will meet Dan Rogerson MP, Giles Chichester MEP and Sian Flynn at the attractions.
The leisure and tourism industries are campaigning along with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and Age Concern, for the introduction of Double Summer Time in the UK. The British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions, of which Angela Wright, MBE, founder and Managing Director of Crealy Great Adventure Parks, is Second Vice Chair, together with The Lighter Evening All Party Parliamentary Group and the Tourism Alliance have been lobbying for Double Summer Time since 2005.
Double British Summer Time would entail moving UK clocks forward by two hours (GMT + 2) during the Summer months, and one hour forward from the current time (GMT + 1) in the Winter months.
The extra hour of daylight, particularly during the warm summer evenings, could be of huge benefit to leisure and tourism attractions around the UK and in particular Devon and the South West, which is renowned for quality of life, outdoor activities and tourism.

Surveys show that the advantages of moving the clocks forward by one hour in the winter and two hours in the summer, would be widespread, from safer roads, lengthened outdoor play time for children, 80,000 new full time jobs, a boost to British tourism of £3.5 billion and an annual saving of 1.2 tonnes of carbon.
Road traffic fatalities would drop by more than 80 per annum and other casualties by more than 200 per annum.
It has been almost 40 years since the UK has held a trial to fully evaluate the pros and cons of moving to Double British Summer Time and in that time there have been dramatic changes in both lifestyle and technology.
