Adrian Fisher, the world’s leading maze designer is creating a giant new maze park in the grounds of a Czech castle. Dorset-based Adrian Fisher Mazes Ltd has designed 10 separate mazes for the new Labyrintharium attraction at Castle Loucen.
The park, which opens on July 7th, 2007 (07.07.07), will include the world’s first permanent light maze in the castle’s central courtyard. As night falls the maze’s design will be picked out with 343 individual upward-facing lights creating intricate pathways.
As well as entertaining visitors on the ground the maze will also illuminate the walls of the castle and will be visible from every window overlooking the open space. Other attractions include turf and boulder labyrinths, a hedge maze, palisade maze, rope maze, pavement maze, a path-in-grass maze, a tactile maze and a low box maze.
A special feature of the new hedge maze is the addition of 12 gates which can be opened or closed in sequence to create no fewer than six different possible layouts for visitors to try and navigate their way through.
“The Labyrintharium is a great opportunity to show people the scope and range of maze designs,” said Adrian. “The light maze is a world first and will provide a stunning centrepiece to the castle and the new hedge maze, with its moveable gates, will also offer the very best of traditional design with modern innovations – ensuring it will continue to be a real challenge to visitors for many years to come.
“We’ve designed the boulder labyrinth within a woodland setting which has produced a wonderfully evocative passageway between stones and boulders, beneath the forest canopy. There are no choices; visitors simply follow the single path and allow the spirit of the woods to surround them,” he added.
Adrian Fisher and his 12-strong design team based in an 1830s manor house in North Dorset have created over 500 full-size mazes across six continents in 30 countries, including hedge mazes for palaces, castles and chateaux and mirror mazes for theme parks, zoos and wildlife attractions.
