World Expos: Cargill Joins As a Pavilion Partner of The USA National Pavilion at The 2010 Shanghai World

Cargill is strongly committed to help realize “Better Lives” with sustainable agriculture and safe food

The USA National Pavilion organizers are delighted to announce that Cargill has signed a letter of intent to become a Pavilion Partner of the USA National Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.  During the six-month duration of the Expo, Cargill will proudly host their community neighbors, customers, partners and senior government officials within the USA National Pavilion. Cargill will also highlight innovations in sustainable agriculture and promote advancements in food safety for “Better Lives”.

Ellen R. Eliasoph, Co-Chair of the USA Pavilion, remarked, “We are proud to welcome Cargill as a Pavilion Partner of the USA National Pavilion.  Cargill has a rich heritage in agri-business and food dating back to 1865 and a long history in China. Cargill’s corporate focus on sustainable development of agriculture and food safety management is an excellent fit with the primary themes of the USA National Pavilion: sustainability and health.”

“We welcome and appreciate Cargill’s support of the USA National Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai,” said U.S. Consul General in Shanghai Beatrice Camp.  “Cargill has a strong corporate social responsibility record, active community engagement and brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and expertise to our Pavilion in the areas of sustainable agriculture and food safety.”

“The Shanghai 2010 Expo provides a truly historic and powerful platform to demonstrate how people from other countries and China are working together to create “Better Lives”. By supporting the USA pavilion, we want to highlight our commitment to the success of this historic event in China.” said Norwell Coquillard, President of Cargil China.  “Better Lives” in cities depend on improved diets produced by a sustainable agricultural system and a safe food supply.  “At Cargill, we are strongly committed to sharing our technology, knowledge and experience to help tackle the economic and social challenges of the future.  By showcasing our corporate tradition in supporting sustainable agricultural and food safety innovation , we will help build ‘Better Lives’.” commented Norwell Coquillard

During the Shanghai 2010 World Expo, Cargill volunteers will invite Chinese rural children to visit  Expo 2010 as part of Cargill’s plan to promote the Expo‘s “ Better Life” theme to the countryside as well as cities. “The development of Cargill is deeply rooted in rural communities.” said Norwell Coquillard, “Today’s city development is closely related to the support from rural areas. Cargill’s participation in the Expo will help promote a  ‘Better Life’ not only in cities, but also in the countryside with our active engagement in rural areas.”

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo will be held from May 1 through October 31, 2010 with a projected 70 million attendees, 95% of whom are expected to come from Mainland China.  This will be China’s first role as host of a world expo. 190 economies have already committed to participate.

At over 60,000 square feet, the USA National Pavilion will be one of the largest pavilions at the Expo.  It will showcase American culture, values, and businesses in China’s most dynamic city, while at the same time celebrating the friendship and cooperation between the U.S. and China.

In accordance with U.S. legal requirements, the USA Pavilion is being operated through a non-profit organization.  The entity, Shanghai Expo 2010 Inc., is co-chaired by Ellen R. Eliasoph and Nick S. Winslow.  The U.S. Department of State is prohibited by U.S. federal law from spending appropriated funds in international expositions.  Therefore, U.S. private sector participation is essential to raise the necessary funds to design, build and operate the USA National Pavilion.
