Casino Pier, NJ, to add Zamperla’s Air Race in 2014

Casino Pier, devastated by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, has announced the first new ride for the Pier in 2014: Zamperla’s Air Race.

People around the world were shocked by the image of the JetStar rollercoaster, ripped from Casino Pier, NJ, and stranded in the ocean by Hurricane Sandy as the storm ravaged the Eastern Seaboard of the US causing an estimated $53 billion of damage.  (See Making Magic Happen: Rebuilding Casino Pier After Hurricane Sandy)

Casino Pier reopened the first phase of a longer term rebuilding project on Memorial Day Weekend 2013, with JRA (Jack Rouse Associates) acting as master planners for the project.

The new Air Race ride is scheduled to go into operation on the lower deck of the Pier in summer 2014.

Air Race, manufactured by Zamperla, provides accelerations of almost 3G, in a ride that aims to replicate an acrobatic airplane flight.  16 thrill seekers can ride at a time in eight two seater airplanes which swoop at up to 25 feet above the ground and spin with 6rpm central ride rotation.

Casino Pier hope that the sight of the ride will draw plenty of attention, saying,  “the impressive size of the whole structure is sure to attract those wishing to test their nerves as well as those simply mesmerized by the speed and movement of the attraction.”
